I finished my PhD in Sweden, I left because I couldn't find a job in my field and people treated me as a second class citizen because I'm from Turkey. Being ethnic European is more important than having skills there. Additionally many EU countries are rather conservative and too reserved/hesitant to think outside of the box. There is too much paperwork, racist biases in hiring, many don't want to speak English, they are not taking risks, etc. Even when you find a job, climbing the ladder is hard and salaries don't grow much. So I understand why no one has motivation to innovate because a bus driver makes a bit less than an engineer after taxes. US is much better in many aspects!

All European countries are in a similar situation. Because Europeans sooner want a consumer lifestyle and quality of life, long distant holidays etc. They can't afford children and the consumer lifestyle because of salaries so they stopped having children. They don't want to live like families in the turn of the 19th Centuary with large families but poor. Governments need to provide stimulation for Europeans to have larger families or take in African or Asian immigrants.

Even if European countries ban all immigration from non EU countries as long as native birthrates are below replacement, long term outcome is the same, furthermore there are millions of immigrants from 60, 70 or 80 years ago in France, UK and Germany whose descendants are no longer counted as immigrants and whose origins can be traced back to Algeria, Tunis, Morocco, Turkey, India, Pakistan .... If one were to create a genetic map of these countries I am pretty sure western European DNA share in most will be no more than 50% to 60%. Hence there is no way to expel these communities and not face an imminent economic collapse. Best thing to do is to allocate more resources for integration that means education and job training and get rid of immigrants who are involved in criminal activities. All that said Europe in 100 years will be quite different than Europe 100 years ago and I am afraid there is not much anybody can do about this.
